The richest man in India, Mukesh Ambani, has moved into his new home in Mumbai which is 27 storeys high and worth $1 bln.Ambani, his wife and three children have moved into the building which is named Antilia, after a mythical Island. It contains a health club with a gym and dance studio, at least one studio, a ballroom, guestrooms and a range of lounges and a 50 seater cinema.There is even an elevated garden with ceiling space to accommodate small trees.

The roof has three helicopter pads and there is also underground parking for 160 cars, which will come in handy for guests at Ambani's forthcoming housewarming party.From the top floors of the 173m high property are spectacular views of Mumbai and of the Arabian Sea.The 53 year-old tycoon is not only the richest man in India but the fourth richest man in the world. In total there is reported to be 37,000 square metres of space, which is more than the Palace of Versailles

.To keep it running smoothly requires 600 staff.According to Forbes magazine Ambani, who owns much of Reliance Industries, the oil, retail and biotechnologies conglomerate, is worth £18bn. He used to help run the company before falling out with his brother.The glass, steel and tiles used to make the building are reported to be from local sources.Ambani does not appear to be influenced by calls by the Indian prime minister, Manmohan Singh, for business leaders to be "role models of moderation".

Bosco Verticale is an ambitious eco project in Milan, designed by architect Stefano Boeri, which tries to blend two discrepant mediums, urban and nature, into one harmonic whole. The project is comprised of  two towers with giant cantilevered staggered balconies that permit fairly big trees to be accommodate, since there is a minimum of two storeys over every balcony. Basically, it’s a vertical forest in the heart of a blooming metropolis.

There is a wide insufficiency of urban green spaces in cities worldwide, and so much could be obtained with just a tree for every small building. Boeri takes it to a whole new level, up that is, with great results.The vertical forest will offer its residents, as well as the rest of Milan’s populace, a cleaner, greener life, as it will produce humidity and oxygen, absorb CO2 and dust particles,  and protect from radiation and acoustic pollution.

The Bosco Verticale, composed of two residential towers of 110 and 76 meters height, is currently under construction in the centre of Milan, on the edge of the Isola neighbourhood, and will host 900 trees (each measuring 3, 6 or 9 m tall) , alongside a wide range of shrubs and flowers.If the apartments would have been constructed individually, the entire project would require 50,000 square meters of land, and 10,000 square meters of woodland.

Plant irrigation will be made filtering and reuse of the grey waters produced by the building.The two towers, upholding to its sustainable, renewable new age bran will also feature an array of other sustainable tech, like photovoltaic and aeolian energy systems.The towers under construction in the heart of Milan.

RC Bridges, nicknamed 'The Buffalo Whisperer' and his wife Sherron, share their Texas home with two enormous bison - 2,400 pound 'Wildthing' and recent 900-pound arrival ullet'.Wildthing, who is seven years old, acted as the best man when his owners renewed their wedding vows in 2006, after five years of marriage. RC, 63, said: "He carried the rings on his horns and threw them off one at a time for us to catch."RC, who is a cowboy and horse trainer, has worked with bison - or buffaloes, as he refers to them - most of his life. After losing an eye in 2004 he had to sell his herd - except for one young male, Wildthing, who he decided to keep as a pet. His photographer wife Sherron, 39, who is part Native American and makes traditional-style clothes and headdresses using the animals' hair, said: "We love our buffaloes. I think if either one of them died, RC would probably go along with them.

" Bullet, a female, who is three and a half years old, still hasn't been house trained, or become familiar with the family's pet wolf, Jewell Spirit. She was given to the couple after her previous owner found her too hard to control. RC said: "Her owner told me if I could catch her, I could have her. She kept getting out of the pen and the sheriff's department was mad about it. Well, I just caught her, put her in a trailer and brought her home." Bison can be very dangerous animals. Their curved, sharp horns are two feet long, and lethal, and they are able to run as fast as 40 mph. RC said: "I knew they were crazy animals but it actually turned out way better than I thought it would be. I always dreamed of training a buffalo, but I never thought about training two. They're like my buddies. Bullet likes to be with me at all times, she'll even give up food to be close to me.

" RC, who insists his friends and relatives still visit the family home, said: "They're not afraid to come over because I keep everything safe. But most of them think I'm going to get hurt or killed. I don't think you can ever take all of the wildness out of the buffaloes, though. I've been hurt a lot, so I guess its just part of the game." Nevertheless, the couple's two grown-up children, son Will and daughter Taylor, are proud of the family pets and have even broken world records with them. RC said: "My son was the first person to ever ski behind a buffalo - on water skis and on sand. My daughter was the first person to ever snow sled behind a buffalo."

The U.S. Office of Naval Research owns a very strange piece of oceanographic equipment. It’s called the FLoating Instrument Platform (FLIP), conceived and developed by the Marine Physical Laboratory (MPL) at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California. FLIP isn't a ship, even though researchers live and work on it for weeks at a time while they conduct scientific studies in the open ocean. It is actually a huge specialized buoy. The most unusual thing about this ship is it really flips.

FLIP is 355 feet (108 meters) long with small quarters at the front and a long hollow ballast at the end. When the tanks are filled with air, FLIP floats in its horizontal position. But when they are filled with seawater the lower 300 feet of FLIP sinks under the water and the lighter end rises. When flipped, most of the buoyancy for the platform is provided by water at depths below the influence of surface waves, hence FLIP is a stable platform mostly immune to wave action. At the end of a mission, compressed air is pumped into the ballast tanks in the flooded section and the vessel returns to its horizontal position so it can be towed to a new location.

During the flip, everyone stands on the outside decks. As FLIP flips, the decks slowly become bulkheads and the bulkhead becomes the deck. Most rooms on FLIP have two doors; one to use when horizontal, the other when FLIP is vertical. Some of FLIP's furnishings are built so they can rotate to a new position as FLIP flips. Other equipment must be unbolted and moved. Some things, like tables in the galley (kitchen) and sinks in the washroom, are built twice so one is always in the correct position. The entire flip operation takes twenty-eight minutes. When FLIP stands vertically, it rises more than five stories into the air.

FLIP was created 50 years ago, in 1962, by two Scripps scientists, Drs. Fred Fisher and Fred Spiess, because they needed a more quiet and stable place than a research ship to study how sound waves behave under water. Ships were unsuitable as they bob up and down and roll side to side.

FLIP is designed to study wave height, acoustic signals, water temperature and density, and for the collection of meteorological data. Because of the potential interference with the acoustic instruments, FLIP has no engines or other means of propulsion. It must be towed to open water, where it drifts freely or is anchored. When FLIP is in its vertical position it is both extremely stable and quiet.

It’s not unusual for photojournalists to travel to places that have been scarred by genocide, accident and natural disaster. But photographer Ambroise Tézenas has spent the last few years turning that norm on its head to capture what happens to those sites after the journalists leave, when they become tourist destinations.In 2008, Tézenas was looking for his next photographic project when he read that a train, swept into the Sri Lankan jungle by a tsunami, was still there four years after the fact. Tézenas happened to have been in Sri Lanka at the time of the storm—on a vacation that became a job—and was fascinated to learn that the train had become a place of pilgrimage.“Some tourists were coming to have their pictures taken there,” the photographer says. “I thought about what the victims and the survivors would think.”That question became the seed of a long-term project, Dark Tourism, now on view at Galerie Mélanie Rio in Nantes, France. Tézenas immersed himself in the tourist experience: he always traveled with a tour group, always paid for the experience and only took pictures of things any tourist could see. Sometimes that ethos meant his pictures were restrained—he only had the time allotted by the tourism groups, so he was unable to wait for ideal light—but it also allowed the photographer to comment on more than the scenery.

A man in his 40s plunged at least 180 feet over Niagara Falls in an apparent suicide attempt, but survived and was lifted to safety during a harrowing rescue. The unidentified man was only the third person known to have gone over the falls without a safety device and lived.

Niagara Parks Police say witnesses reported seeing the man climb over a railing at 10:20am on Monday and "deliberately jump" above Horseshoe Falls and into the Niagara River.

The man was conscious and talking at first but got quiet. He appeared to have chest injuries, including broken ribs and a collapsed lung, Breathtaking images showed the victim and his rescuer dangling high above the falls by an aerial fire truck.A waiting helicopter flew him to a hospital, where a spokeswoman said he has critical but non-life-threatening injuries, which was echoed by rescue personnel.Niagara Parks Police say it appears the jump was a suicide attempt. It was the first time since March 11, 2009 that someone survived a jump into the falls.

Jenna Talackova, 23, has made history as the first-ever transgendered contestant to compete in the Miss Universe Canada pageant that began Thursday and concludes Saturday with the winner’s crowning.By the looks of it, in photographs from the event, Talackova is one confident woman having walked the pageant in a white halter bikini with a side-sashed bottom, red silk dress with a high/low hemline and white body-hugging long-sleeved evening gown with a plunging backside. Judges will decide whether to advance her into the semi-finals.

Talackova, from Vancouver, was born male but had sexual reassignment surgery four years ago. She was allowed to compete in the pageant after she legally fought to be reinstated into the pageant. She had been kicked out by officials claiming she lied about her natural-born gender on her application.

News of Talackova’s oust drew criticism that resulted in an online petition that gathered 40,000 signatures. Donald Trump, who owns the pageant franchise, changed the pageant’s policy saying rules had “been modernized to ensure this type of issue does not occur again.”
On Thursday, Talackova failed to win a couple of lesser prizes–”Best Body” or “People’s Choice”–that would have guaranteed her a spot in Saturday’s finals.
