Transport Strike in Philippines due to Oil Price hikes
Several public transport groups and militants staged a strike against sky-rocketing fuel prices in Philippines. Protesters shouted slogans and lied on the busy roads to block traffic on major roads in Manila, capital city of Philippines, as part of a nationwide transport holiday after continued oil price hikes.
Petrol prices in the Philippines are not subsidised and have risen 14 times in less than six months. Protest leaders want the government to scrap an oil deregulation law and remove the consumption tax that have helped oil prices reach to record highs.
Currently petrol is priced at Peso 58 (Rs.69) and diesel cost Peso 44 (Rs.53) in Philippines.
