Climbing of World's Tallest Peak, Mount Everest

Sixty years ago today New Zealand mountaineer Sir Edmund Hillary and Nepalese Sherpa Tenzing Norgay made the first confirmed ascent of the world's tallest peak which reaches 29,029 feet. Since then thousands of people have made the attempt, with many perishing. Just last week 80-year-old Japanese mountaineer Yuichiro Miura became the oldest person to reach the summit for the third time, although he said that he nearly died on the descent and that this would be his last time. The 1953 expedition that took Hillary and Norgay to the top ended with a stay of just 15 minutes, with Norgay leaving chocolates in the snow and Hillary leaving a cross that was given to him by Army Colonel John Hunt, the leader of the British expedition. -- Lloyd Young

Africa was her home for many years and Tippi became friends with the ferocious animals and tribespeople of Namibia. As a young child, the French girl said, “I don’t have friends here. One man and his tiger

It is quite common for people to form close and loving friendships with animals. But it is quite a different matter when that animal is a 27-stone tiger with a fondness for fighting.Abdullah Sholeh, 31 has formed an unbreakable bond with four-year-old feline Mulan. He regularly sleeps, plays and fights with the enormous tiger. The pair spend every day together after Mr Sholeh helped raise her from a three-month-old cub in Malang, Indonesia. He now cares for her full-time for owner Noer Mohammaed Sholeh - and has become affectionately known as the tiger nanny. The pair are so inseparable, Mr Sholeh often shuns his own bed to sleep alongside the big cat in a rickety outhouse. And Bengal Mulan is even known to 'mock attack', hug and kiss her companion when they play in the garden behind their home. However, despite the playfighting, Mulan clearly doesn't appreciate her strength. As one picture shows, Mr Sholeh was left with a bruised and bloodshot eye after being caught by one of Mulan's paws.

Bamboo Train Of Cambodia

Bamboo Train Of Cambodia

For years, travellers in Cambodia had to deal with one of the world's worst train networks. Trains run infrequently in between the villages, break-downs and derailments are common, and the trains themselves travel at little more than walking pace. So people in the north west of the country, near Cambodia's second city of Battambang, have taken matters into their own hands. They have created their own rail service using pieces of bamboo and abandoned barbell like train wheels. The locals call the vehicles "Norries", but overseas visitors know them as "bamboo trains".

Each bamboo train consists of a 3m-long wood frame, covered lengthwise with slats made of ultra-light bamboo, that rests on two barbell-like bogies. A repurposed water-pump or gasoline engine transfers power to the rear wheels by means of belts. These rickety contraptions can haul twenty or more people over the aging rails at speeds nearing 40 km/h, with the track just a couple of inches below the passengers. Warped and broken rails make for a bone-shaking journey.

And what happens when a bamboo train meets another bamboo train coming the opposite way? The answer is simple: whichever car has the least amount of passengers is quickly lifted off the tracks to allow the other to pass. They are then reassembled, engine restarted and on their way they go. It can be done with a minute. The importance of urgent bamboo train removal is of interest should a real train come your way.

The man was conscious and talking at first but got quiet. He appeared to have chest injuries, including broken ribs and a collapsed lung, Breathtaking images showed the victim and his rescuer dangling high above the falls by an aerial fire truck.A waiting helicopter flew him to a hospital, where a spokeswoman said he has critical but non-life-threatening injuries, which was echoed by rescue personnel.Niagara Parks Police say it appears the jump was a suicide attempt. It was the first time since March 11, 2009 that someone survived a jump into the falls.

The Tower of The Devil

The Tower of The Devil

The mysterious Tower of the Devil, known as Devils Tower, is located in northeastern Wyoming in the United States. Its height is over 1,266 ft., which is comparable with the height of the Empire State Building, which is about 1,250 ft. without the spire. The rock formed about 65 million years ago by volcanic activity, and is unusually shaped in the form of woman’s hips which was the result of erosion of the surrounding soft rock around a strong internal structure.
